I teach because I love students and I love learning.  I believe that learning always extends beyond the classroom, so I try to model that for my students by traveling, adventuring, reading, and engaging with new people who always teach me more.

I am excited to come back to my alma mater and teach ELA because I am passionate about kids and about the power of stories to shape us and to enlarge our perspective on the world. A few of my all-time favorite books are Thirst, The Rent Collector, and Boys in the Boat. I love to read, but I also love getting outside to hike or bike, and I love to watch and play sports, especially baseball, basketball, and soccer.

I absolutely love to read anything that will sit still long enough to be read, and I enjoy sharing great literature with my students.  While I have many favorites, the best novel I've read in the last three years is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.  When I don't have my nose in a book, I try to get outside as much as possible with my husband, son, and dog.  We love to camp, bike, hike, rock climb, golf, snowboard, and geocache together.

Literature can teach us so much about humanity and allow us to see the world through multiple perspectives--that is why I am passionate about sharing it with my students. When I am not reading and teaching, I enjoy hiking, camping, traveling, gardening, fostering dogs through Roice-Hurst Humane Society, and spending time with my husband, family, friends, and two rescue pups.

I am really excited to be a Grand Junction Tiger!  Though I knew I should've been a teacher a long time ago, I decided to go back to school  and get my teaching certification and master's from CMU a bit later than most people. My original bachelor's degree was from Louisiana State University.  Geaux Tigers!!  I started my teaching career at Caprock Academy where I taught there for 7 years and for the last 2 1/2 years served as an ELA teacher and as their High School Dean.

My husband, Tim is senior pastor at Fellowship Church, and I have two daughters, and a son-in-law.  My oldest daughter, Lindsey lives in Tampa, Florida, and my youngest is married and lives here in Grand Junction.

I enjoy reading, exercising, and spending time with friends, family, and my animals.  I love teaching.  I feel it is a calling, and though I dodged it for a bit, I finally listened, and I'm so glad!!

I have been teaching for 14 years and I love my job! Teenagers are the best. :)  I look forward to meeting my students at the beginning of each school year and creating new learning experiences for them. I am originally from Chicago, and we moved to the Grand Valley in 2018 for the amazing weather and outdoor lifestyle.  My favorite things to do are running, biking, hiking, skiing, and mixed martial arts.  I enjoy extreme sports, I am loud, and hyperactive.  My husband is an emergency room nurse and in the military, so he tells some great stories.  We have two kids and a huge German Shepherd.
